The “Morse” You Know…

When you purchase a home that’s over a century young you start to wonder a lot of things regarding its history. When we decided to purchase this historic craftsman one of the first things we wondered was, who lived here? So we began our journey to find who were the original owners of our new home. After connecting with a Detroit historian through Facebook, we were able to identify the original owner of the home, Dr. Plinn Frederick Morse.

Plinn was born in 1885 in Middleville, MI. He earned his M.D. at the University of Michigan in 1909 and his M.A. in 1910. Dr. Morse was well decorated in his field of Pathology, one of his highest honors was received in 1932 when he won the Gold Medal of the American Medical Association for his study of physiology, pathology, and surgery of the parathyroid glands. Plinn also held the position as director of laboratories and research at Harper Hospital, a position he held for 45 years until he retired in 1958.

Dr. Morse was married to Margarett Mae (German) Morse, they owned the home originally when it was built around 1917. The couple had two sons, William and Donald. Plinn passed away in 1962, he was passionate about his studies of pathology and was considered a “Jack of all trades” and a “master of all”. We also discovered some other exciting information about the Morse’s that we plans to share soon so stay tuned!
